Several of our members are knee-deep in township records these days. Jerry Hummel is coaching Cheryl Mathews and Louisa Northup in the fine art of digital preservation. CCHPS has a standard process for reviewing all of the records available, deciding how much time it will take to “digitize” them, and establishing the highest priorities. Digitizing means photographing (or scanning) the records and converting them to computer-viewable copies. Thus, as the paper records age and deteriorate, the information they contain will be preserved.
